Aunt dimity: Japanese Edition

 

My Dear Readers,

Aunt Dimity's journey to Japan began in a most unexpected way. While in France, a young Japanese woman named Chiaki Asazuki read an English-language edition of AUNT DIMITY'S DEATH. She immediately fell in love with it and proposed its publication to an editor in Japan. The editor loved it, too, and agreed to bring Aunt Dimity's magic to Japanese readers. Ms. Asazuki then became the co-translator of the Japanese editions of the Aunt Dimity series.

I think Aunt Dimity would be utterly enchanted by the notion of an English book read in France by a Japanese woman who then translated it into Japanese. I know I am!

I can't read, write, or speak Japanese, but I can appreciate beauty. I find the Japanese editions of my books absolutely beautiful, from the thoroughly engaging cover art to the adorable interior line drawings. I'm head over heels in love with Japanese Reginald. The pictures of him in a chef's hat or in a pith helmet are about as cute as cute can possible get. But, then, I'm awfully fond of pink bunnies, no matter what their country of origin.

I also hope you take a moment to send a kind thought and a prayer to those in Japan who are still suffering in the aftermath of the March 2011 earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disaster.
